چکیده

Class I: Chromosome increase occurs in the first generation through the union of gametes one or both of which are unreduced. Can occur following selfor crosspollination. Class II: Chromosome doubling occurs in offspring of a hybrid with meiotic disturbances leading to unreduced gametes. It’s a second generation phenomenon: F2, BC1 or F1 crossed to a third parent. Class III: Chromosomal doubling occurs in somatic tissues. Mitotic event!

Polyploid and hybrid evolution in roses east of the Rocky Mountains.

This study investigates the impact of hybridization and polyploidy in the evolution of eastern North American roses. We explore these processes in the Rosa carolina complex (section Cinnamomeae), which consists of five diploid and three tetraploid species. To clarify the status and origins of polyploids, a haplotype network (statistical parsimony) of the glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase...

Polyploids with different origins and ancestors form a single sexual polyploid species.

Polyploidization is one of the few mechanisms that can produce instantaneous speciation. Multiple origins of tetraploid lineages from the same two diploid progenitors are common, but here we report the first known instance of a single tetraploid species that originated repeatedly from at least three diploid ancestors. Parallel evolution of advertisement calls in tetraploid lineages of gray tree...

The role of genetic and genomic attributes in the success of polyploids.

In 1950, G. Ledyard Stebbins devoted two chapters of his book Variation and Evolution in Plants (Columbia Univ. Press, New York) to polyploidy, one on occurrence and nature and one on distribution and significance. Fifty years later, many of the questions Stebbins posed have not been answered, and many new questions have arisen. In this paper, we review some of the genetic attributes of polyplo...

Progenitor-Derivative Relationships of Hordeum Polyploids (Poaceae, Triticeae) Inferred from Sequences of TOPO6, a Nuclear Low-Copy Gene Region

Polyploidization is a major mechanism of speciation in plants. Within the barley genus Hordeum, approximately half of the taxa are polyploids. While for diploid species a good hypothesis of phylogenetic relationships exists, there is little information available for the polyploids (4×, 6×) of Hordeum. Relationships among all 33 diploid and polyploid Hordeum species were analyzed with the low-co...

Polyploidy can Confer Superiority to West African Acacia senegal (L.) Willd. Trees

Polyploidy is a common phenomenon in the evolution of angiosperms. It has been suggested that polyploids manage harsh environments better than their diploid relatives but empirical data supporting this hypothesis are scarce, especially for trees. Using microsatellite markers and flow cytometry, we examine the frequency of polyploids and diploids in a progeny trial testing four different populat...
